There's no typical story-lineor any characters/NPCs to meet but as you explore and advance further, you will notice an entity that follows start through the levels. The game also has no user-interface and no dialogue. Just Liminal background music in few areas and Immersive sounds to make you feel like you're really there. Walking in water is slower. All of these things makes the game feel more real and creates a tense atmosphere.
