The end of the Great War did not bring peace to the lands between former Russian and German empires. Young national states, created on the ruins of these empires, were almost instantly overrun by the Red Army. Its goal - to reach Germany and start communist uprising that would spread across Europe.
Since the road to Europe lead through Latvia, these events started what is now known as Latvian War of Independence.
Comrades and Barons: Gates of Freedom covers all warfare that happened on Latvian territory, even when it did not involve Latvian military.
The game is played on a detailed hex map, with the company as lowest unit level. Higher level units utilise artillery, armoured trains and vehicles as combat support.
